the Aftermath

So my left leg isn't doing real stellar. I had that knot in my quad from mile 8 onwards of the race and I guess I should have been a bit more proactive in working it out instead of running on it. According to my friend Christy's physical therapist (whom she so nicely "lent" me) I tore up the muscle fibers and caused some bleeding in the muscle, and I'm under strict instructions not to run for at least 7 days. ARGH! The pictures are from Sunday, the one picture is from when I first woke up and the 2nd is from later in the day. The PT said that's blood under the skin. GROSS! He said that if I do run before it's healed I could cause some permanent damage with scarring and stuff which would make it always hurt when I run. So I will be a good girl and not do anything but sit around a play with the cute kitties.... look at that face!! How could you not want one??

Oh my goosh, CMB! That is serious. You really pushed through the pain. I am impressed and concerned all the same.

I have ran twice since the weekend. Tonight I had the best hill session I have ever had.

nana nana boo boo! :-Þ

Holy crap lady... seriously lay low. You ran so well. This is just a wake-up call. I had one trying to qualify for boston, running two crazy fast paved marathons in 6 weeks. I thought I was done running forever. Hang in there. Big muddy thoughts. Play with your pussy.

snark.
glad erik's back. hee hee

You were right in your previous post about not understanding why you do it. I have also never understood the mountain climbers who lose finger, toes even lives because of their quest to climb Everest either ...
A different breed for sure. Listen to your doctor and take care of yourself please. That looks so painful.

Can you ride your bike? :)

meeeeeeeeeeow!

Admit it, you ran 50 miles and broke blood vessels and tore up your muscles just show you could show off your legs.

You're shameless.

I had something similar happen at Arkansas Traveller last year on my shin. It hurt like hell but was gone after about 2 weeks. Started out as a puffy knot but dispered into larger red area. Haven't had any reoccuring issues so hopefully you won't either.

Dear Cynical,

It will go away. As soon as there is no pain, resume normal activity. I've had this happen up to two times in one year.

No big deal, but it looks like your ol' man beat the living shit out of you. Just think what it does to my "manly manhood"...what'd your ol' lady do to you, Ben?

Just tell 'em it's "an old sex injury" from your porn days.

Bad Ben

Did you find a home for the kitties yet?

Thanks for all the concern and advice guys! I really appreciate hearing from both Gabe and Ben that this has happened to others and will pass. Although 10 days without running and I'm going CRAZY!

TZ- I have had a few people express interest in a kitty, but it's still a good 6 weeks until they are weaned so we'll see if that interest lasts! If you want one I'd be happy to drive hir down to you (and then run some of your trails);)

that happened to my mark's calf. it was black and blue. huge. fortunately for him, he was shipped off to china for a long time. couldn't do much running, so he was forced to heal. obey the PT!

and such a cute little puss.

Quite impressive erythema (the fancy medical way to describe redness) there. I think though that walking a lot will probably speed absorption (but I guess you're already more than 2 weeks out and apparently back running...) Congratulations on your first 50, great finish! (btw I didn't finish my first attempt, a long story...)
